Native American Set - Free Crochet Pattern

This pattern happened because I had a customer who sent me a picture and I couldn't find any patterns that were exactly what I wanted.

So I picked up my hook and went to creating.

Skill Level: Easy

Yarn: #4 worsted weight such as Yarn Bee Soft Secret (I used Cognac)

Gauge: 12 rows hdc = 3.5 inches, 4 hdc = 1 inch

General Supplies:

Hook - E or size needed to obtain gauge

Tapestry/Yarn Needle

Feather Hackle Pad, HERE for the one I used

Sewing Needle and Thread

Embroidery Floss

Stitches and abbreviations:

ch - chain

hdc - half double crochet

sc - single crochet

lpst - loop stitch

st(s) - stitches

sc dec - single crochet decrease

hdc dec - half double crochet decrease

sl st - slip stitch

hk - hook

Notes:

The loop stitch was new to me. This post from PlanetJune helped me with it. There is a right and left hand video tutorial.

The turning ch does not count as a stitch.

Headband

Row 1: Ch 5, hdc in 2nd ch from hk and each across. <4>

Row 2-42 : Ch 1, turn. Hdc in each st. <4>

Finish off and weave in ends.

Cut 12 strands of yarn approximately 14 inches each. On one end of the headband, take 2 strands each and pull through between sts in 3 places leaving the strands doubled. Braid the strands and secure the end with another piece of yarn or knot securely. Repeat for the other end. These will be used to secure the headband on the baby.
